New WSUS Updates cause Build & Capture task sequence to stall out?

$

We have been capturing our .wim with SCCM's capture sequence and have placed the MDT Windows Update ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf type script as a step into our capture to pull from WSUS and everything has been working fine for quite some time.

Our server admin recently added a bunch of new updates and now all a sudden the computer is rebooting and simply sitting at the Administrator login for Windows 7 and not going anywhere.  SCCM logs should "MDT Windows Updates caused a restart" but then it says Running as if it's simply waiting for more input.

I assume some updates are causing reboots, but why is it stalling out?

Task sequence stops at preparing disk 0 partitions

Hey everyone,

I'm using a standard client task sequence to deploy Windows 8 to devices.  Recently we received a shipment of two Dell XPS 12's and both my task sequences for Windows 7 and Windows 8 have failed.  It tends to stop at the "Preparing Disk 0 Partitions" step and I've left it going for 24 hours and it didn't move on.  When I look at the partitioning after a reboot I notice that there is a 500MB partition 1 at which point I can clean the partitions using diskpart.  I then reboot the computer and try the task sequence again (launching from MDT 2012 U1 boot flash drive) and it stops at that same point.

The strange thing about this request is that I used this same task sequence back in February with the same OS image and I haven't changed the drivers and it worked for me multiple times back in February on the first XPS 12 we received.  Now I can't get it to work on the newest XPS 12's but it does seem to work on all of our desktops and other laptop devices.

Has anyone else run into a similar problem?  I've searched the web and some people mention drivers but I can see the hard drive in diskpart when I go to the command line after I boot the laptop with the flash drive.

Thank you!

SCCM Wallpaper on users background after OSD

Hi,

The first user that logs to a computer deployed with SCCM gets the SCCM wallpaper by default, even if the user has a roaming profile.

If I log-off and log-on again, the correct wallpaper is shown.

Is this a known issue? Any fix? I already tried a restart action at the end of the TS with the same results

Thanks.

We are migrating WIN XP TO Win 7. I've generated a config.xml file using the below command:-

scanstate /genconfig:config.xml :/i:miguser.xml /i:migapp.xml /v:13 /l:scanstate.og

Set the value of a Task Sequence Variable called as OSDMigrateAdditionalCaptureOptions as

/config:"C:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\CAM0000A\x86\config.xml"

However it failed to run the scan. i see the below logs in the ScanState.log file

Exclude .pst from MigDocs.xml

$

Hi everybody!

I'm working with USMT 5 to migrate from Windows XP to Windows 7. I'm using scanstate with migapp and migdocs.

I am capturing all data from a second partition (D:\) and reroute them to a folder C:\OLD-D-Data. I want to exclude from the capture with the migdocs the .pst file on the D:\ partition, without using a unconditionalexclude.

I will migrate the pst files with a dedicated xml. If I modify the migdocs adding an exclusion, the command is ignored and I find the pst duplicated.

Looks like the MigDocs has an internal rule to include the pst that I cannot overwrite.

Any suggestions?

The modified MigDocs:

<include filter='MigXmlHelper.IgnoreIrrelevantLinks()'>          <objectSet>   <script>MigXmlHelper.GenerateDocPatterns ("FALSE","TRUE","FALSE")</script></objectSet>        </include>           <exclude filter='MigXmlHelper.IgnoreIrrelevantLinks()'>          <objectSet>   <script>MigXmlHelper.GenerateDocPatterns ("FALSE","FALSE","FALSE")</script>  </objectSet>        </exclude>  <!-- Exclude PST (captured by the PST.xml) -->        <exclude>          <objectSet>   <pattern type="File">D:\* [*.pst]</pattern>               </objectSet>        </exclude>    <!-- Reroute D:\ in C:\OLD-CUser-Data -->  <locationModify script="MigXmlHelper.Move('C:\OLD-D-Dati')">   <objectSet>    <pattern type="File">D:\* [*]</pattern>          </objectSet>  </locationModify>
Thank you very much!!

TS fails with "There are no locations for this program"

$

Background: I have an advertised program that runs a user interface window that allows them to postpone a deployment or run it immediately. When they choose to run the deployment, a VB script uses WMI to off a TS advertisement. All source files, scripts, programs reside in on single package. The first "user interface" program advertisement is set to "Download all contents locally before starting task sequence". The task sequence advertisement is set to "Download content from distribution point and run locally".

The problem: This is working in 80% of the cases but fails for the rest. The script fires up the task sequence advertisement but fails immediately. These are the events from smsts.log:

Unmounting a wim image error

I then closed all applications and retried. I then got the message below.

The directory could not be completely unmounted.  This is usually due to

Standalone USB media not detected after TS restarts

$

I have a Win 7 build with 3 restarts. The problem seems to occur when imaging computer models with card-reader drives. After the first restart in the task sequence the standalone USB media is not detected and the message "Please insert media #1 for the task sequence" is displayed. When I F8 to console and browse drives using notepad I the standalone USB media cannot be seen. At this stage I remove and reinsert the USB media then refresh and it appears. Then I click OK on the "Please insert media #1" prompt and the task sequence continues. Then after the next restart the same thing occurs again.

I've tried a few different computer models and it's pretty much happening on all computers with card-readers. I've also tried many different USB media and different OSD task sequences all with the same results.

The additional interaction necessary to complete the process is causing problems. Any suggestions on how to resolve this would be much appreciated.

Drivers accidentally removed from driver packages

I've accidentally removed several drivers across several driver packages on SCCM 2007.  It was due to a misunderstanding of the "Add or Remove Drivers to Packages" dialog box.  I deselected the existing packages, wanting to add just to a new package & not touch old working packages.  Doh!

I know the drivers that have been removed and have made a new package and distributed it to DPs.  However the drivers are still not being matched & installed by 'Auto Apply Drivers' even though they are back on DPs (albeit different packages).  The Setupapi*.log says "There are no compatible drivers for this device".  Could someone please help troubleshoot? :-

Does the fact DPs havn't been refreshed for the old packages cause failure somehow with the new package?  Possibly the content is still thought to be in the old packages and the content search fails?  I'd be very grateful for any suggestions for either restoring the drivers to where they were or getting the ones in the new package recognizable once more.  Failing that any suggestions on which logs to look at & how the MP/DP matches driver content.

Extra info:-

-Some of the old packages have "Use a compressed copy of the source directory" selected.

WinPE and Certificates

$

I have an environment where we require SSL and client certs. During OSD, I can boot from PXE (client certificate delivered by the distribution point), I can boot from media(Client cert embedded in the media).

I now have a task sequence where I am trying to capture user state, so I create a default MDT client task sequence and during the running of the task sequence I see errors around trying to download the MDT Files Package from the DP. It seems WinPE doesn't have a proper client auth cert.

My question is how does WinPE get the client certificate when running the task sequence from Software Center?

Help with Operating System Deploy, Boundaries and Distribution points

$

Hi all, hoping for some quick help here...I have been searching for a while but still don't fully understand what I need to do. Here is my situation.

SCCM Environment: - 1 Site, 1 Server

- 1 Branch DP across WAN on separate subnet

- 2 AD Sites: CityA contains the Primary MP and DP, CityB contains BranchDP

- 2 SCCM Boundaries setup using our 2 AD sites

- The Primary DP in CityA is protected within BOTH boundaries

- The Branch DP is Protected within the CityB boundary

For the most part we don't put many packages on the Branch DP, and allow the CityB clients to get their packages from the primary DP in CityA. However, we are going to rolling out a Windows7 upgrade, so I want the CityB client to pull the large Os Image WIM from the Branch DP, but still be able to pull all other packages needed during the OSD from the Primary DP. I have put the OS Image package on the BranchDP, but the OSD Task sequence is still pulling the image from the Primary DP in CityA.

I can't quite figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm wondering if when a computer boots into WinPE for the task sequence, is it still technically part of the AD Site/Boundary? I tried un-protecting the CityA DP within the CityB boundary, but now the TS can't access packages that only exist in CityA.

Any advice? Thanks a lot in advance!

SCCM image deployment not installing NIC drivers

$

Hello, I am seeing an issue when I go to image a new Dell Optiplex 3020 x64 Win 7.  I have imported the CAB file and extracted all the drivers from dell.  At the beginning of the task sequence I can open a command prompt and see it has an address using ipconfig.  Then it applies drivers and joins the domain.  After it restarts it no longer has an ip address according to ipconfig.  I have logged into the machine after it fails the task sequence (error 80070002), installed the driver and joined the domain with no problems so I don't think it is the driver.  I am fairly new to this process and I am using images and sequences built by someone else that have worked until now.  Any help is greatly appreciated  thanks.

SCCM 2007 Drivers not importing

$

I am having an issue with SCCM 2007 and some Lenovo T440-T540 Drivers

The first issue I have is that the Win PE image doesnt recognize that I have a valid network driver on it. (USB OSD comes back with "not a valid network adapter found") even though I have verified that the Intel driver is there.

2) When I went to re-import the drivers I get an error stating the drivers are already imported. I have removed the drivers from the admin console and you cannot see them anywhere. Thinking I might have to go somewhere in the DB to nuke them out.

I have removed the drivers from sccm by just selecting and deleting the package is also gone from the DP. Not sure how i can re-import them into sccm for them to show up under OSD/Drivers/T44-T540. I have verified the boot image has the correct drivers on it for network.

0x80070241 BOOTMGR is missing

Hi All,

I'm running into this issue sporadically over a noticeable number of computers, but consistently on the computers that don't work.

While running a task sequence, the applying OS step fails saying:

"WIM error:C:\[Filename].
Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file."

I have tried recapturing the WIM, disabling AV on the server, refreshing the DP, updating the DP, cleaning the drive in Diskpart as well as doing a low-level format using DBAN and nothing has solved it. What is strange is that through hundreds of computers, only a handful fail and result in a BOOTMGR is Missing error. But for the ones that do experience it, it is a consistent failure. And for the successful ones, it is consistently successful.
