Folks,
i have a SCCM infrastructure 2007 R3, and i want to deploy windows 7 SP1 using ZTI, and i have 10 branches with slow WAN link.
my question is can i move the SCCM server between sites rather than using the BDP with WAN link.

Hi
I have distributed win 7 image to sccm 2007 dp. I have checked the path the image complete wim file is transferred to that folder but the status is still install retring state. can some one tell the reason and its rectification as am i not able to find any error in distmgr log.
Since the package is available at dp share will imaging be supported, OSD will proceed.
Regards Sushain KApoor
This is not really an error more a need to confirm what I suspect is happening.
I have created a SCCM OSD Task Sequence to install Windows 7 x64 and a host of applications.
The Task Sequence completes successfully as do all of the incorporated program installations (having checked the exit code using SCCM Client Center and the exit code in the execmgr.log).
What I have found is the the C:\_SMSTaskSequence folder remains with the following contents;
C:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\<Package ID>\.agent
The '.agent' file is a valid part of the package and has successfully been copied to the correct location, along with the other files.
What I think is happening is that when the clean up job is running it is failing to handle the fact the the file does not have a filename, but just an extension.
Has anyone experienced this before or know of another reason why it would be left behind?
Hello all,
Hopefully someone will have a solution to this issue. I've only found one site with a similar problem (http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2352753&SiteID=17) and the solution was to rebuild the SCCM server, which I have done. Yet the issue persists. After working my way through countless issues with SCCM, this seems to be the only obstacle in my way. Here is the situation:
1. I boot the bare metal client system to PXE and the boot image loads
2. The SCCM status messages appear "Windows is starting up..." and then "Preparing Network Connections..."
3. The client machine hangs for a minute or so, then reboots.
I have enabled the command prompt shell in the boot image and can ping the SCCM server and name resolution work fine, so I know it isn't an issue with the network drivers. Below is the log information from the client. Just as an FYI, the Server is running in "Mixed Mode", so I'm not really understanding the why the identification is an issue. As best I can understand the client is requesting information from the server at a certain point and getting a blank reply.

Hi all,
I have a TS to deploy image for KIOSK system (non-domain). Image works fine. Now want to encrypt the drive with Bitlocker during osd image. Save PIN and recoverykey in shared drive. So, when image is done they can login with PIN (Bitlocker) if system reboot.
I need help on saving pin and recovery key to shared drive and how can i start and complete encryption during TS. i have lots of documents in technet and kind of configure but its not working.
thanks in advance.

Hello,
This is the situation.
My client has 4 HW configs.
We use SCCM PXE OSD
We have created 4 collections with in each collection a model variable. We then add our bare metal machine in the correct collection
Collection Machinetype1 variable Model = type1
Colleciton Machinetype2 variable Model = type2
Collection Machinetype3 variable Model = type3
Collection Machinetype4 variable Model = type4
We have 1 Generic OSD Task Sequence that we advertise on the 4 collections above.
In the task sequence we add a task install softwarepackage "drivers for model 1" if task sequence variable Model equals type 1 etc...
Everything runs smoot.
Now the client wants to make a media (DVD) from this amazing generic task sequence.
The problem here is that the task sequence on the media no longer is going to verify the variables in the collections.
In stead we can set variables on the media or even in the tasksequence itself (set task sequence variable)
This leads to the point that we have to make 4 task sequence media's , 1 for each Model with its own variable.
My client now wants 1 DVD that can be used on all different HW models.
My question: Is there an option in SCCM Task Sequence that can ask the users input for example a drop down list with all the different HW Models and use that input to fill in its variables?

I have 5 sites that currently have 5 separate, identical task sequence...but one difference is there is a program one of my techs wrote that renames the computer to, for example, MPHS-SerialNumber.
Our sites are as follows:
MPHS-
MPJH-
MPES-
so forth and so on
Each site has their own gateway/subnet, and so if I was able to put this ALL into ONE task sequence that would be amazing.
If given this, how would you all do this? I know that I can add the scripting/program/etc for each site to the task sequence, and then under options apply a conditional WMI query based on the subnet/gateway the client resides in, but I don't know HOW to do this.
I've tried this:
Select * From Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration Where DefaultIPGateway="10.80.16.1"
And I get this error during the task sequence:
The task sequence execution engine failed evaluating the condition for the action (MPHS Rename) in the group (Site-Specific Renaming). Error code 4119. The operating system reported error 53: The network path was not found.
I'm at a loss for how to achieve this, but i know it's something simple i'm missing...or I just need to completely re-evalute how we're renaming these computers and do it differently...anyone out there generous enough to help me out with this task would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much!
Hello All,

So is there a way on Which i can re-deploy 2012 standad edition overwrting the existing one ? If so what is the method i need to follow.
how to perform the clean installtion on the exisiting Vm, so that server will have 2012 standard edition?

I thought I would give back a bit to the community. My current engagement has a client where 2/3 of the computers are not on DHCP, and probably won't be anytime soon. There is a feature deficiency in the SCCM boot from media function, it lets you set the IP address in the initial WinPE startup, but that address isn't communicated to Windows. Windows comes up expecting to find DHCP. Hint, hint here anyone from the product group, this should be added to the Apply Network Settings task :)
This script needs to be put in the task sequence right before the Apply Network Settings task sequence step. The script will check to see if the variables were already set in Windows (which works correctly). If not (only happens when you are doing a new install) it will read the entries from WinPE and write them to the TS variables needed by Apply Network Settings.
There is a limitation to the scipt that it can only put in as much as can be entered by WinPE. So things like multiple DNS servers for example can't be entered into PE, so they can't be transfered to Windows.

I am attempting put in a script that will move the computer account to the proper OU in AD. I have the script but when it launches inside of the TS I get "CScript Error: Loading script "C:\_SMSTaskSequence\WDPackage\Scripts\MoveOU.vbs" failed (Access is denied. )."
I am using the Run Command Line, and using the "Run this step as the following account" I have verified that the account has access to do what I need it to do in AD. I have attached the logs as well.

Hi - unfortunately we are still on 2007 and don't have the software catalog yet but need to set up a system to replace user apps after their boxes get re-imaged to the newest standard baseline image. I was looking at using the USMT to move over some files and settings and also need to replace apps based on what the user had before. They might have some combination of specialty apps that are not distributed to all users, and we don't want them having to put in tickets to get their apps back.
Does anyone have any way to reasonably automate inventorying and then give them the right task sequence to match the apps they had before? We will be doing blocks of more than 50 at a time. Thanks.
Hello folks
We just setup the productive SCCM environment and successfully staged many clients. But with one we have some trouble.
We have all done so far as I have the knowledge. Any help would kindly be appreachate.
Kind regards
Stefan
I am in the process of doing OS deployment with Windows 7. I have a State Migration Point in place with minimum free space threshold of 100mb. My question is, will my task sequence error out and fail prior to formatting the drive and installing Windows 7 if the minimum free space is met and all the data cannot be captured? I am nervous that if this threshold is met all user data on a system is not able to be captured and the task sequence continues on to format the drive and install the OS.
Thanks,
Mike

I have a new model of laptop that I'm trying to deploy Windows 7 to. It's the HP EliteBook 8570w.
This laptop has two drives:
DISK 0 180GB mSATA SSD
DISK 1 500GB SATA HDD
I'm trying both Win7 x32 and x64. I have TS's for each, that work perfectly on all our other models.
Here is the strange part... By default my TS is set to format and partition disk number 0, and this is still what I want on this new model as the SSD is disk 0. It successfully completes the format and partition but fails at:

Now if I change the TS to format and partition disk 1, it works, and deploys windows,on the 500GB of course, which I don't want.
Please advise - Thanks for any help.
Hey Guys -
In our environment, OSD Task Sequences are usually run in the PC Lab by booting to PXE. Even though the PC Lab is 10 feet away from me and on the same local network, they are on a different subnet which is the only one set up for PXE booting. When starting here recently, I was told that to run OSD outside of the PC lab I'd have to boot to ISO. Fine withh me.
The problem is that every time I try to boot to ISO, I get errors and the process fails right before I can even see a list of Task Sequences. I'm using the same boot image that's on PXE, though. We do use SSL and re-created the ISO again this morning using the correct cert and password but no change. Below is a clip from the smsts.log.
I've searched online, but so far haven't found a solution. This issue has been going on since I started which was a couple of months ago. I've tried different systems including ones fresh out of the box which haven't ever been on the network here.
Ohh - by the way - A common fix for this is to set the correct time in the BIOS. I've tried all of that and no change. In fact, I can take any system which gets this error into the PC Lab, boot to PXE, and it works fine.
Any Ideas? Thanks!
Ben K.
Update
After posting this, I continued searching. I read the issue may be caused by IIS. I remoted to our DP (not same box as primary) and opened IIS logs. I didn't find even a mention of the system or it's IP that I was working on. I kept the log open in CMTrace and tried the process again. Nothing was added :(
Hello,
I am trying to get familiar in a new SCCM 2007 environment (badly documented I'm afraid). The TS used for computer deployment contains a long sequence of 'Install Software'-steps labled 'Install PACKAGES' (0 to 9). Within each of these the 'Install multiple applications'-box is checked and a Base Name Variable has been given (PACKAGES0 -->9).
I have been reading about the mechanism behind defining variables in the CustomSettings.ini, but of all the CS.ini files I have found on the SCCM server I have not found traces of these variables.
I have found no collections with these variables.
So my question is: How to figure out what may be included in these ? What software is installed, if any?
