I am having some trouble deploying a image i got from a reference machine (Win7x64 sp1)

The machine boots into WinPE but i get the message Task Sequence failed error 0x80070490

it formats volume c: then when copying the .wim file it produces the error.

Has anyone come across this before? Which logs should i be looking at to troubleshoot this?

background info on the setup SCCM 2007 R2 running on Win SVR 2008 R2 MDT2010 Update has been installed.

many thanks in advance!!

Group Policy Application in OSD (Task Sequence)

Hello, I have a quick question about Group Policy during an OSD/Task Sequence.  The Microsoft document at:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693951.aspx states that "TheSetup Windows and ConfigMgr task sequence action is responsible for running Group Policy on the newly installed computer. At which point during the task sequence action that Group Policy is applied depends on the operating system being deployed. On Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, Group Policy runs after the task sequence is finished, the task sequence GINA has been unloaded and then replaced with the GINA on Windows. On Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, Group Policy runs after the Setup Windows and ConfigMgr task sequence action completes. "

I am deploying Windows Server 2008 R2 and I am not getting Group Policy applied until the task sequence exits, not at the of the "Setup Windows and ConfigMgr" step.  Is the documentation above correct?  I know User Group Policy will not apply because there is not a logged on user, but shouldn't Computer policies be applied? (I am trying to run a Powershell script during my TS, and my code signer certificate and Execution Policies are applied via Computer based Group Policies, which my client is not getting, which causes the scripts to fail).

Thoughts?  Thanks!

Driver Import Problem

Back in 2010, I posted a very similar question. I am now experiencing the issue again. I am trying to import two different NIC drivers. The share is accessible and the server has full access to it. I have imported dozens of drivers prior to this. This is part of my earlier post:

------------------------------------------------------

I am trying to import drivers for the OptiPlex 980. Using the wizard to do so, I get to the end when a list showing all of the drivers have failed. The error message reads:

ConfigMgr cannot import the specified driver. Verify that the driver exists in the specified location and that the SMS Provider computer has Read permissions to the specified shared folder.

------------------------------------------------------

The server OS is Windows 2008 R2, 64-bit.

SCCM is installed to E:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Configuration Manager

What logs could I be looking at to troubleshoot this issue? Thanks for your time

SCCM 2007 standalone USB is prompting for media

Hello.  I have been creating standalone media on USB for a while.  This week I needed to create new standalone media with an updated image and 3 new packages.

I modified the same TSs in SCCM 2007 I always use to create the standalone media on USB.  The USB sticks are 16 gig and I diskpart like usual.

After creating the new standalone media on USB, I tested the sticks.

It deploys the image and drivers successfully but when it is attempting to install the packages (applications) I get a popup asking me to insert the media for the install.

I checked the USB stick and the packages are all there and I can launch the packages successfully.

I also advertised the TSs and can deploy via advertisement.

Any ideas?  I have to get these done as soon as possible.  WIll appreciate the help.

OSD selectively copying content of MDT Settings package unattend.xml to C:\windows\panther\unattend

I am having problems with getting some OOBE Settings in unattend.xml applied to my image.  After spending a week troubleshooting it, I am noticing that during my OSD task sequence execution, not all the settings of my MDT Settings Package's unattend.xml are being copied over to the C:\windows\panther\unattend\unattend.xml.

My Setup:

   - OSD Image Built and Captured using MDT 2010 Update 1 [separate from SCCM] - W7 SP1 x64 with French language package added and all Windows Updates as of June 2014 downloaded directly from Windows Update via the MDT TS before it was sysprep and captured as wim.  Used VMware Workstation to build the image, no drivers.

   - SCCM lab environment is 2007 SP2 R2 with MDT 2010 Update 1 integration, also tried with MDT 2012 Update 1 integration with same result.

   - SCCM-MDT Zero touch TS used.  Nothing changed in MDT Toolkit Package.

   - MDT Settings package unattend.xml modified the OOBE settings section to pass language settings from Task Sequence as below:

  - The values for these variables are in the TS and I've verified that they can be read by the unattend.xml.

What happens is after the image has been applied and Setup Windows and ConfigMgr step runs.  I hit F8 and check the unattend.xml copied to C:\Windows\panther\unattend location.  The file doesn't have some of the settings from my original file.  The settings I passed in specialize pass got copied but oobeSystem wasn't.

Using the same Task sequence and MDT Settings package, I changed the OS image to another one I grabbed from someone else with Windows updates until Nov 2013 only and it worked fine, all the settings were applied and xml in the panther folder had the correct settings.  Just using VMware Workstation 10 for all my tests.

Any ideas on how the panther unattend.xml is generated during OSD?  What's wrong in my image that's causing this issue?

Thanks

Issue distributing operating systems - Certificate related?

Hi Guys,

I am in need of some help and assistance. I am looking to move to SCCM 2012 during the summer but for now i have some issues with my current 2007 setup. We had a issue a couple of weeks ago where the certificate on our CA expired. After i renewed this certificate, the certificates for SCCM had 'expired'.I managed to issue a new Site server signing certificate and also a PXE service point certificate but i am still having issues with OS image deployment.

Below is part of the SMSTS log file. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated as i seem to be hitting a bit of a brick wall.?

Password Protect Task Sequence

Hi guys, I am looking to password protect my rebuild task sequence. Basically I want to have a task sequence which every SCCM client can see via run advertised programs. Then I want helpdesk to be able to troubleshoot it down to the machine requiring a rebuild, if this is required they can kick this off from Run Advertised Programs. However in order for standard users to not run this themselves I want to be able to password protect the task sequence

The following below works but only after booting into WINPE, which of course the helpdesk person cannot enter it in at this point as he has no remote tools running. Also it appears when placing in the password it is clear text, anyway to hide the charecters so users cant see this if say the helpdesk person is remoted on via UltraVNC

Any ideas here would be great

Thanks

I went all out on this one, and may have over done it.

I have created a program that will prompt the user for their AD username/password, and verifies that they are in the "MDT Users" group.  I have created a package and program for this but I'm having problems adding it to my task sequence.

I can't add it to the task sequence if the program is set to allow user interaction, but without it, I can't enter my password!

Does running something from the command line get me around this issue?

USMT against a bitlocker partition when starting from PXE

Hoping someone can tell me if there is any special mojo that can make this scenerio work.

My situation:
I enable Bitlocker encryption as part of my Task Sequence dpeloyment of Windows 7.  I am now diving into USMT (hardlink hopefully) and I quickly realize that i need to "unlock" the bitlocker drive before I can USMT it.  Makes sense.  The disabling Bitlocker as you all know works great when the TS is executed from within Windows.  Where it breaks down for me is that I would like to automate this process even when starting from Windows PE PXE boot
I thought I would be slick and create a vbscript that grabs the enryption key from AD and passes it to manage-bde to unlock the drive.  This works GREAT if you know the computer name (which I was specifying directly in my testing).

The obvious conundrum here is that I cannot retreive the computer name say from the local registry hive, to then pass to the script that queries AD and gets the recovery password since..the drive is locked!

I was really hoping I could query SMBIOS on the machine and take some bit of data and coorelate that to an attribute on the AD object to get the name but have come up empty.

My thought was that I could (although not really wanting to) add a front end the TS that asked for the computername, then runs the script to unlock the Bitlocker partition.

Anyone else have any tricks up their sleeve?

Thanks!!

Unable to read task sequence configuration disk

Target Server is an HP ProLiant BL460c G5

I'm trying to load my reference iso via the iLO connection, mounting the image to the CD drive.  I used the same process to create the WIM file on my Source Server and it worked fine.  I boot from the CD, it loads windows files, then comes up to the SCCM screen with the error "Unable to read task sequence configuration disk."

Any ideas what's going on?

WMI query for checking computer name

$

Hi

I must be doing something wrong on this one, but anyway. I'm trying to use a WMI query condition for OSD TS "Apply Network Settings". If the computer name is like it should be added to a certain AD OU:

Select * from Win32_ComputerSystem where Name like "TST%"

It passes the Test query in the WMI Query Properties box when I'm adding the query, however it seem to fail during the deployment. I haven't checked the smsts logs yet, just wanted to know if I was doing something obvious wrong here....

Thanks.

Windows Deployment Server 2008 PXE Boot Problem

$

We have the following:

2008 Server w/ WDS, Printer Server Roles (Native Mode)

2000 Server w/ DHCP Role

WDS Setup:

Default Folder location C:\RemoteInstall

WDS is setup with Vista SP2 Image file straight from the disk (default install.wim) and Boot file (default boot.wim) these files were put in the following default directories all this was put in a default location by WDS.

Image File = C:\RemoteInstall\Images\ImageGroup1

Boot File = C:\RemoteInstall\boot\x86\images\boot.wim

DHCP Setup:

DHCP is not listed on any scope in DHCP it's statically assigned

The scope of the computer I'm trying to PXE boot has the following Scope settings for WDS

Scope Option 66: "Boot Server Name"

Scope Option 67: "boot\x86\images\boot.wim

PXE Boot Client Results:

I get a IP address I then get the following error

PXE-T01: File boot\x86\images\boot.wim is not found at tftp

PXE-T01: TFTP Error - File Not Found

PXE-T01: Exiting Intel Boot Agent

Question

Can someone please explain to me why I'm getting this error and what I can do to fix this problem I've tried to change the file path to the ones that I see online ie (boot\x86\pxeboot.com or wdsnbp.com) and I get the same error.  I'm at my wits end and not sure what to do please advise.

I posted this before and got a reply asking me to do the following:

Please run wdsutil /verbose /progress /uninitialize-server on the WDS server first.

(Which I did and it didn't help)

In addition, I would like to know whether you are using SCCM/SMS in your environment.

(Which I answered that we are but not sure how that effects the error I'm receiving, he then proceded to tell me I needed to post this on this forum instead).

 Thank You.

OSD Exits to Ctl-Alt-Del after Reboot from Software Update, leaves Clients in provisioning mode

We are seeing a problem where the Windows 7 SP1 OSD wrongly exits to the Ctl-Alt-Del screen:  This problem is occuring with about %25 of our Newly Imaged PCs during the Software Updates step of the Task Sequence (of which there is about 9 outstanding updates), the PCs are rebooted as 4 of these updates finish with COMPLETE_SOFT_REBOOT_NEEDED.

After the Software Updates Reboot the following errors are found:

SMSTS.log reports:

Failed to set log directory. Some execution history may be lost. The system cannot find the file specified. (Error: 80070002; Source: Windows)

UpdatesDeployment.log reports:

Failed to save an instance of CCM_TargetedUpdateEx1, error 80041033 UpdatesDeploymentAgent 3/04/2013 4:56:39 PM 3080 (0x0C08)
Failed to get class instance for CCM_TargetedUpdateEx1, error 80041033 UpdatesDeploymentAgent 3/04/2013 4:56:39 PM 3080 (0x0C08)

ExecMgr.log Reports:

  Failed to open to WMI namespace '\\.\root\ccm\Policy\Machine' (8007045b) execmgr 3/04/2013 4:56:39 PM 3496 (0x0DA8)
Failed to ConnectSettings for ICcmPolicyAgent in CSoftDistPolicyNamespace::ConnectToNamespace execmgr 3/04/2013 4:56:39 PM 3496 (0x0DA8)
  Failed to ConnectToNamespace in CSoftDistPolicyNamespace::GetMachinePolicy execmgr 3/04/2013 4:56:39 PM 3496 (0x0DA8)
Failed to connect to machine policy name space. 0x8007045b execmgr 3/04/2013 4:56:39 PM 3496 (0x0DA8)
Failed to connect to user policy name space execmgr 3/04/2013 4:56:39 PM 3496 (0x0DA8)

I have checked the logs based on other forum suggestions I can say the following:

-Network adapter is getting valid address;

-I do not have a step for "Install Roles and Features";

-I can apply registry changes for each machine to take them out of Provisioning mode, and after that I dont have any problems - this is far from the solution that I hope for.

SCCM Onedrive for Business

Hi,

I am currently deploying Windows 8.1 OSD for a bunch of Laptops.

OneDrive for Business was included in our Office 365 Application deployment via Applications in SCCM.

My question is:

Is there a way to inject a library URL in Task Sequence instead of Initial Dialog Box which prompts for library URL within OS.

Thanks,

Jonathan

SCCM OSD, Error 0x80070032

I'm trying to deploy a captured WIM file using the OSD to a new machine.  However, the new machines come with an image that is installed on FAT32 partition.  My task sequence fails on the first task which is "Restart in Windows PE" with the error code, 0x80070032 and is not even geting to the "Fomrat and Partition Disk" task.

I have found a work around to this issue in another post, which I just used diskpart clean commad to wipe the disk before pushing my OSD but obviously I cannot do this for 450 machines.  Is there a way that I can deploy my image to a FAT32?

Pushing exe using SCCM

Hello there,

I have an exe file, this file should be deployed using SCCM, when running the exe file manually it prompt for "next" on the first screen, then radio button "i agree", then "next" then finish.

I need to push it silently over SCCM without any user intervention. I searched all over the internet but no solution convinces me.

Should i create a script? Re-create the exe to be silent? just push on SCCM with some conditions ?

I'm sorry but I'm not expert with SCCM and i need a straight official solution.

If any solution provided kindly to provide the steps.

Thanks a lot.

Deploying a compressed WIM

$

Hello

Currently we use a WIM file in our task sequence and it is 4.8 GB It is a Windows 7 WIM and we are using SCCM 07

I created a new WIM and used the compress switch to Maximum. After compression the size is 300MB. This would help when replication the WIM to the servers and from the servers to the clients, however when I tried to use imagex to apply the WIM on a client using imagex ( withe the drive preped and formated) it runs the apply but when I boot the PC it just loads a PE environment. It seems like it is not de-compressing the WIM when applying it. IS there a switch I need to use that i'm missing? Can I apply compressed WIM files? My goal is to replace it in the Task Sequence we use today. Thanks for any light you can shed.
