Capture refernce system image

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions that you may have to help us.

We have 3 virtual machines running and these systems are intended to do updates on a regular basis. Our goal is to capture an updated image of these systems on a schedule so we are not having a ton of updates to apply to a newly imaged system.  Is there a guide that we can use to create this task sequence?

State Migration Point Data not Deleting

$

Hi

I've seen this issue mentioned numerous times on these forums but it looks like a tricky one to get a solution for - would appreciate if somebody could assist

I have SCCM 2012 Deployed with a State Migration Point on another Site Server - I migrate to Windows 7 and the Task Sequnce used include a Capture User State Section and a restore User State Section - The Migration/Task Sequence completes successfully - have checked reports ....

The Proble is I have set the Stae Migration Point to delete the User State Data to Delete after 3 days  ...it never does this - the Entries remain in the USMT section of SCCM - and if I log onto the Server with the State Migration Role all the data is still there after 3 days.

This is a major problem - is there anyway to force the State Migration Point to delete after 3 days regardless. I know from reading that the issues look to be around the fact that their may be an issue with the "Release Store" Section - however my task sequence continues -and is marked as successful

SO Basically is there a way to force the Delation of Data automatically through the State Migration Point and if not  .... will a manual delation work and if so what folders should I delete (had a nasty issue the other day where I deleted one of these User State Folders and the State Migration Point went offline, only came back online when I created a blank folder to replace the folder I deleted)

Would really appreciate assistance here as I have come accross this problem on a number of Sites and its not practical to go through log files for each migration to verify that the stores were released correctly

OS Deployment - Failed to get client identity 80004005

Hello all,

Hopefully someone will have a solution to this issue. I've only found one site with a similar problem (http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2352753&SiteID=17) and the solution was to rebuild the SCCM server, which I have done. Yet the issue persists. After working my way through countless issues with SCCM, this seems to be the only obstacle in my way. Here is the situation:

1. I boot the bare metal client system to PXE and the boot image loads

2. The SCCM status messages appear "Windows is starting up..." and then "Preparing Network Connections..."

3. The client machine hangs for a minute or so, then reboots.

I have enabled the command prompt shell in the boot image and can ping the SCCM server and name resolution work fine, so I know it isn't an issue with the network drivers. Below is the log information from the client. Just as an FYI, the Server is running in "Mixed Mode", so I'm not really understanding the why the identification is an issue. As best I can understand the client is requesting information from the server at a certain point and getting a blank reply.

we are trying to do a PXE boot for HP 8200 CMT and SFF and we get pxe-e51 errors while trying to get an IP address.  We can do a PXE boot for a HP Elite 8000.  We have sccm 2007 R3 on windows server 2008 and all of the sites work except for one.  All sites are primary sites with the same exact hardware and software configs.  We checked all of the drivers and even reimported them.

any help would be great!!!

Computer does not join domain during Task Sequence, no error in smsts, no netsetup.log either

Hi all,

I'm having a problem with a new image that I made. I'm using the "Apply Network Settings" step of the Task Sequence to join computers to the domain. I've done this previously without any problems, and I'm using the same domain account in this TS that I've used in other task sequences to join.

There are no errors that I was able to find in the smsts log file. I saw in other threads that I should look for netsetup.log, but that doesn't exist on my imaged system. The SCCM status report indicates that the task sequence completed successfully.

I'm using SCCM 2007 and the image is Windows 7 SP1 64-bit. I've tried this on both a physical machine and a VM. The only other time I've seen this happen is when the NIC driver fails to install, but the network is working fine on both computers.

I'd appreciate any help that anyone can offer on this. Thank you!

Retain Static IP Address entered in WinPe Boot

$

Hi...  I am using Boot media to start my Windows Server OSD.  I have no DHCP in the data center and can not use PXE.  Anyway, I have my techs boot to the SCCM Boot Media (SCCM 2007 R3 SP2).  The techs will enter a valid production IP address on one of the 6 NICs.  They then hit F8 and ping the SCCM site site to ensure that they have network connectivity.  Then they click NEXT in the wizard and are presented a menu of what server operating system to deploy. (I have a serveral TS Adv to unknown computers)

The installation starts just fine...  The hard disk is formated, The Os image is copyed, etc.  After the system boots into the real OS for the first time, the IP address information is lost.  This causes the remainder task sequence events to fail.    (Note: when I test my TS in a lab environment with DHCP, everything completes normally and my Os works 100%).

So, I was wondering if there was a way of retaining the WinPE manually entered IP address through out the deployment?

1) WinPE phase: Server tech enters a static ip address via the config button because there is no DHCP available in the server vlan.

2) Image is applied

3) As a first step right after the task sequence is restarted I want to retain the IP entered in step 1 WinPe and apply it to the OS.

Is this possible and are the detailed steps to implement?

Thanks

Distributing a wireless network profile no longer installs in Win7 x64: Exit Code 1, FailureNonRetry

I've been searching these forums all day.  I can't find an answer to my issue.  I just created a new image on the server.  This network profile was previously on a computer with this image.  But, Sysprep deletes it.  So, the consultant and I previously had it working successfully.  We exported the wireless network profile and created a program to install it (through advertisement and in Task sequence).  But, now that I created a new image, it no longer works.  In the execmgr log, I am seeing this:

Looking for MIF file to get program status

Script for Package:VPK00019, Program:  Create Corp1 failed with exit code 1

a couple lines down:

Execution is complete for program Create Corp1.  The exit code is 1, the execution status is FailureNonRetry

I have the program set to always rerun.  The below command works from Windows.

cmd.exe /C netsh wlan add profile filename="CTM-CORP1.xml" user=all

Where do I go from here?  Thanks!

SCCM image deployment not installing NIC drivers

Hello, I am seeing an issue when I go to image a new Dell Optiplex 3020 x64 Win 7.  I have imported the CAB file and extracted all the drivers from dell.  At the beginning of the task sequence I can open a command prompt and see it has an address using ipconfig.  Then it applies drivers and joins the domain.  After it restarts it no longer has an ip address according to ipconfig.  I have logged into the machine after it fails the task sequence (error 80070002), installed the driver and joined the domain with no problems so I don't think it is the driver.  I am fairly new to this process and I am using images and sequences built by someone else that have worked until now.  Any help is greatly appreciated  thanks.

sccm 2012 R2

option 66 is configured.

I have tried the following troubleshooting steps.

1. Uninstalled the sccm console - suggested on technet - didn't work

2. uninstalled/reinstalled WDS role - Technet - didn't work

3. uninstalled wds and the distro point role, reboot, installed wds, reboot, installed distro point - technet - didn't work.

4. checked the WDStftp registry settings and they look good - still broken.

5. pulled hair out and spit on my screen... didn't work.

Restricting a Task Sequence to Certain Users

$

My goal is to advertise a OSD task sequence to all workstations in such a way that standard users do not see it in Run Advertised Programs, but someone with elevated rights could do a Run-As on Run Advertised Programs and have the task available to them.  Is this possible and if so, how?

The ultimate objective is to make OSD available from Run Advertised programs, but prevent users from accidently wiping their machines.  If the above will not work, what are my other options?

Thanks!

Getting XML from a Tasksequence via SQL query instead of using WMI

Hi,

I`ve got a question about tasksequences in SCCM 2007. I need to generate a report, which shows the softwarepackages of a tasksequence divided per group.

Until now I was only able to generate such a report with a WMI-query by using the class "SMS_TaskSequencePackage" and the method "GetSequence" to get the XML of the tasksequence.

However it is customer requirement to get the data with an SQL query directly from the database instead of using WMI.

The respective column I found in the SCCM-database within the table "dbo.TS_TaskSequence". Its name is "Sequence". Unfortunately the XML is not saved in cleartext within the database, but in the datatype "image". The first characters of the column are always "0x3839313330303030" and there are only numerical values.

Now my question:

How can I convert the values of this column into cleartext, so that the hiding XML becomes viewable? I searched a long time for a solution, but I assume it isnot documented. Could you maybe help with that issue?

Many Thanks!

Alex E.

Normal task deployment works perfectly but that same task doesn't work when put on a USB for standalone install

I have a task that runs an OSD with drivers and applications.  That task when ran from within windows or using a boot CD works perfectly on all machines.

That same task was used to make a standalone USB drive.  That USB works for all but one machine model, the HP 8460p.

When I use the Standalone USB drive it will install windows, drivers, and other customization we have, but it will not install any of the apps that should be installed.  If I use the normal method for deploying a task sequence the apps are install.

I am not sure what is going on and could use some help.  WHen looking at the log files nothing stands out as causing this issue.
