SCCM Wallpaper on users background after OSD

$

Hi,

The first user that logs to a computer deployed with SCCM gets the SCCM wallpaper by default, even if the user has a roaming profile.

If I log-off and log-on again, the correct wallpaper is shown.

Is this a known issue? Any fix? I already tried a restart action at the end of the TS with the same results

Thanks.

Faster: Apply Driver Package or Auto Apply Drivers

Which one is faster? I heard Jason make a case before that Auto Apply is not as slow as people think, but I heard the downfalls of using that with PnP and all.  I want the quickest driver install possible.  What do you recommend?

Capturing Non-Sysprep Image With ZTIBackup.wsf

I would like to backup the user computer to a WIM before formating and installing Win 7.  USMT is great and stuff but it's not going to catch the fringe items without a bunch of extra planning.  I've added the MDT Toolkit package to ConfigMgr to access ZTIBackup.wsf.  It appears a .WSF can't be executed?  I could probobally just create a Run Command task to execute ImageX but the ZTIBackup is already built.

MDT TS not joining domain

Hi,

I'm experiencing something weird. my MDT 2010 U1 TS doesn't join HP Compaq 6200 & ProBook 6460b to the domain when I deploy Win 7 x64. It works for x86.

I'm using drivers packages and my WinPE have all drivers (same version x86 and x64). I didn't enter my domain informations in the CS.ini, I only use the "Apply Network Settings step for the domain. It's configured correctly with the SCCM account to use to join the domain. My computers account are created manually in a OU before do the OSD (not a container). I did F8 during the TS and the computer have an IP and I'm able to ping it all the time during

Here is the log in advertisement status in SCCM:

For some others computers able to join the domain, I have the same results in the advertisment status log file.

Now the thing weird is the smsts.log file:

During the TS a I did F8 and it get a IP address and I'm able to ping the servers but why in the log I don't see an IP ? What do I need to fix this ?

And Why the netsetup.log file see WORKGROUP instead of the domain ?

OSD stops after running ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf

I'm having some trouble when running ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf on target machines.  The process kicks off and the log files indicate patches are being installed successfully, however after the third or fourth iteration the script just stops.  Whatever is causing this to stop is also abrubtly terminating the image from completing - nothing in the Task Sequence after the ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf task runs, the TS just stops.

I'm running SCCM 2007 R3 SP2 in mixed mode.  I have MDT 2010 SP1 integrated and am using the latest version of ZTIWindowsUpdate that I'm aware of.  We have a stand-alone WSUS server that I'm attempting to pull the updates from.

Interestingly enough the Task Sequence completes just fine when running from a VM.

I can provide log files from a successful build vs. a failed build if that would be helpful.

Any help would be appreciated.

Using osddriverclient.exe manually

$

I'm hoping someone is able to assist me with this issue. What I am trying to accomplish is to dynamically apply driver packs during imaging without having to associate the driver pack to the task sequence. The reason for this is that the number of supported hardware models ballons the size of the task sequence by having to add the driver packs.

I prefer driver packs over "Auto Apply Drivers" since I know exactly which drivers the machine is getting.

The idea here is to add the Driver Pack ID to the customsettings.ini file under each hardware model. This would be the package for osddriverclient.exe to use for obtaining the drivers.

After the OS is applied and a Driver Pack would normally be applied, I am running the Toolkit job again and then trying to run osddriverclient.exe manually as a run command line action.

osddriverclient.exe /install:%OSDApplyDriverDriverPackageID% /unsigned:%OSDAllowUnsignedDriver%

The two step prior to this I set the OSDApplyDriverDriverPackageID and OSDAllowUnsignedDriver task sequence variables (for testing...would be set in customsettings.ini once working).

The problem is that it is unable to find the SCCM Package on the DP by HTTP which I would understand, but then it also fails to find it by SMB. I thought that SCCM would be smart enought to be able to find where a package is by the UNC share that is already there during imaging.

Any tips or tricks on getting this to work is appreciated.

Thank you

SCCM MDT ZTIBackup/ImageX capture error 32, file in use by another process. Is there a way to ignore errors?

$

Hi all. I am working on my Windows XP to Windows 7 SCCM OSD task sequence. On of the steps I have in the TS is to take a full backup image of the XP system, before the drive is wiped and Windows 7 is installed.

I use the MDT 2012 toolkit, and the ZTIBackup.wsf script to perform the image capture to a .wim file on the network. ZTIBackup.wsf actually uses ImageX.exe to perform the image capture. The step usually works, but on certain computers ImageX will run into files that deems "in use by another process". This is strange because before the ZTIBackup step, my TS reboots the PC into WinPE, so no files in C: volume should be in use. Still ImageX throws an Error=32.

I have added the files that cause the errors to the [ExclusionList] section Wimscript.ini. This works for the particular computer and file I am currently having problems with, but inevitably, the next computer will have problems with a different file.

Is there a way to allow ImageX to ignore 'files in use' or other errors, and just continue with the backup? I have read the TechNet on ImageX command line usage, and I don't see an option...

Thanks in advance!

I have a branch site with DP role installed. one of the disk that contains packages content failed and I replaced this disk. It was RAID5 and I changed to RADI 1. Branch is server2003.

When i run the Branch distribution point Maintenance task, the folders SMSPKGE$ get created with "BDPtmpwrkflr" folder but the content does not start to download. the other dp's are fine. I checked the logs. (Contenttransfermanager log) but nothing seems unusual.

Do you have any ideas?

Deploying Windows 7 SP1 x64 OSD - STOP Error 0xE8086002 after Applying Driver Package

$

Hello All,

We are deploying new hardware - Lenovo T440 and T440p. We have a working OSD TS which I duplicated and used as the basis of the new OSD. However, the OS applies and the Apply Driver Package steps start to run to apply AHCI and NIC drivers. This takes a long time (about and hour), then the windows/network settings apply, followed by the config manager client installing. During the mini setup the task reboots the PC and immediately Blue Screens. I assume that there is a incompatible driver.

We are running Server 2008 R2 (patched), SCCM 2007 R3, SQL co-located (2008 R2 RTM), with MDT 2010 U1.

I have carried out the following steps:

1 - Downloaded the Ethernet, USB 3.0 and AHCI drivers x86 and x64 versions (and others) from Lenovo, and extracted them.

2 - Imported the drivers using the SCCM console to new packages.

3 - Added the driver packages to the boot images (both x86 and x64) and Updated the DP's - when importing, some driver were skipped as 'the system is not supported'.

4 - Validated the WMI query that specifes the Model and Driver Packages in the TS.

I can disable the apply driver package steps and the TS continues, but without additional software being installed as the NIC drivers are not installed. When I apply the 3 driver packages to the OS, they install the drivers OK. The TS also works correctly on a VM.

I have found the PNP device info on the new PC, but how can I use that to verify that the driver needed is in SCCM?

Do you have any more tips on drivers - should I apply both x86 and x64 to both boot images, if we are only deploying x64 OS

Thanks in advance,

Ben

SCCM PXE boot - "File not found"

This just stopped working today (has been working great for the past week) .. nothing in logs to indicate why.

I have a single site topology, SCCM with WDS/PSP. DHCP server on same subnet. Installed WDS (configured nothing) then PSP. Updated PSP DP with x86 and x64 boot images.

To test, I added a bare metal client to the database, placed the resultant client record within a collection, and advertised a simple image deployment task sequence. When booting the pc, i get an immediate "PXE-T01: File not found". Now, since we no longer configure DHCP options to point to the PXE server, nor to tell the PXE client which boot filename to acquire, exactly what file does the TFTP daemon use when responding to a PXE request? The smspxe.log reflects the fact that the PXE client is in fact communicating with the service and requesting a boot file. Is there a TFTP daemon log somewhere that might tell me what file it is not finding?

10.10.1.29 is the SCCM server

10.10.1.35 is the DHCP server

10.10.1.146 is the PXE client

How to Query Status of a PXE Advertisement

$

In Configuration Manager, you right click on a resource and select Clear Last PXE Advertisement a window would appear and if a PXE Flag occurred you would see an Advertisement.  I am working on a Front End tool for a client and one of their request is to be able to see if a workstation has a PXE Advertisement.

I've been trying to find a way to query this information in a script form.  But I'm having a tough time finding a WMI Class where I can find this information.

I have found the ability to Clear the PXE Advertisement, and that works, but I want to have a visual display if a PXE Flag has been applied.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciate for this.

I am trying to get a machine refresh working in SCCM and am running into a road block with the user state migration. The Task sequence hits Request user state store and then fails. In the logs on the machine it shows it downloads the cert from the SMP but it fails to verify the cert. The thing is that this was working and then stopped for no apparent reason. I have added a second SMP and it has the same issue so its got to be something environmental causing this. I have found no references to the errors I am recieving that relate to the issue so I am stumped. We have a SCCM 2007 site in mixed mode. The error log is:

Hi guys I have a HP 820 that has a 500GB spinning disk and a 32GB flash disk and I have not been able to work out how to deploy SCCM to it. I can load the SATA drivers and loan windows with the HP CD but SCCM just fails as soon as it partitions. Has anyone deployed to these already? If so can you point me in the right direction?

"Run Command Line" task with Secedit fails in task sequence- help!

I am using a secedit command line to change some security settings on a Win7 SP1 X64 task sequence build.  The command line works just fine when I run it manually but my task sequence step fails with error code 1.

Here is the command line:

secedit.exe /configure /db c:\windows\security\database\custom.sdb /cfg %scriptroot%\security.inf /overwrite /quiet

Here is the full error message:

Command line returned 1. The operating system reported error 1: Incorrect function.

I've verified the security.inf file is in my MDT toolkit in the scripts folder.  Any ideas why I might be getting this error message when it runs just fine manually?
