Two identical laptops running Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.   Same TS is advertised to each.   TS runs an OS refresh on each machine.   Both have most current version of SCCM client.  Both recieve advert and commence TS.   Laptop 1 successfully completes, but Laptop 2 fails on the Apply Device Drivers task.

Status Message:

Copy Default Profile W7 & SCCM

Hello-

In the past when I used Windows Deployment Services, to prepare an image I have customized the default administrator account then used an XML unattended file which had the copy profile option.

Now I use SCCM 2012 SP1. I have created IMAGE Capture Media on a USB stick. When I run the capture image process everything works except the copy profile function is not happening. I know I ma missing a step somewhere but I just can't figure out where. Any suggestions?

OS Deployment - Failed to get client identity 80004005

Hello all,

Hopefully someone will have a solution to this issue. I've only found one site with a similar problem (http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2352753&SiteID=17) and the solution was to rebuild the SCCM server, which I have done. Yet the issue persists. After working my way through countless issues with SCCM, this seems to be the only obstacle in my way. Here is the situation:

1. I boot the bare metal client system to PXE and the boot image loads

2. The SCCM status messages appear "Windows is starting up..." and then "Preparing Network Connections..."

3. The client machine hangs for a minute or so, then reboots.

I have enabled the command prompt shell in the boot image and can ping the SCCM server and name resolution work fine, so I know it isn't an issue with the network drivers. Below is the log information from the client. Just as an FYI, the Server is running in "Mixed Mode", so I'm not really understanding the why the identification is an issue. As best I can understand the client is requesting information from the server at a certain point and getting a blank reply.

wrong boot.ini

A week ago Win XP was using my boot.ini to boot to two alternative OSs with a timeout of 3 seconds.

Now the boot.ini displays "MS Windows XP home" on two lines with a timeout of 30 seconds.

Clicking on first line works, second line gives an error.

What is causing booting process to ignore my boot.ini?

OSD Advertisement

SCCM 2007 R2

I'm running a new OSD from its advertisement off a secondary sever. After I run the advertisement it starts then suddenly stops, this is all I get, see below:

The program for advertisement "CGI20022" failed ("CGI000AE" - "*"). A failure exit code of 8 was returned. User context: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Possible cause: Systems Management Server (SMS) determines status for each program it executes. If SMS cannot find or correlate any installation status Management Information Format (MIF) files for the program, it uses the program's exit code to determine status. An exit code of 8 is considered a failure. Solution: For more information on the exit code, refer to the documentation for the program you are distributing.

Any ideas?

Deploying Windows 7 using ZTI on systems with McAfee EndPoint Encryption

$

Hi...Iam working on a solution to migrate XP 32bit systems to Win 7 64bit. All the PC's are encrypted with McAfee EEEPC 6.x and laptops have pre-boot enabled. Looking for an Hardlink migration with USMT and the SCCM 2007 SP2 R3.

PXE is not enabled and in that scenario is it possible for me to have WinPE staged to local hard drive and boot through it and then lay down the image. Also in that case how to store the MBR as there is no X drive to upload the MBR and restore it from there, any other script to copy the MBR back when the WinPE is applied.

Has any one got it to work and any information on how to make it work will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Dear All,

I'm trying to deploy Windows 7 on new H/W which have XP SP3 installed. i've captured the image with Standard Application from a reference computer. But the problem is its taking more than 5 hours to complete the deployment evenif local SCCM site server with DP and PXE point available. The image is around 4 GB.

Have anyone faced the same issue. i'm not able to understand why this is happening.

Change OSD background

I am trying to change a background for the OSD. Not the initial WInPE wallpaper. That i changed on WinPE properties.

The background after WinPe reboot and runs a task sequence "copy wim file and the rest of the TS"

I mounted my boot.wim file and found  in c:\windows\system32\winpe.bmp file, which is the file i have added in WinPE properties.

Is there a way to change the wallpaper during OSD?

Thank you.

Hi All!

I have a Win XP machine and I want to upgrade it to Win 7 using MDT 2012. I don't use SCCM.

Win XP has 2 partitions (C and D) and I need to migrate all data from both partitions to Win 7.

I also need to have just one partition on Win 7 (C) and need to migrate all data from D partition  to a folder on C drive Win 7.

Can it be done using refresh scenario? And How can I reach this goal?

Thank you in advance.

Hi

We have a SCCM 2007 running in windows 2003.

We're using the USMT 4.0 and SMP in our head office to copy the files in the server and restore back after installing the new OS.

Now, I want to ADD another SMP role in the secondary site the same function of the head office.

The objective is for OS deployemnt in remote site to used the secondary site to be host the SMP (copy files while migrating) or file server and I don't want to used the HeadOffice

a. Can I create another  SMP role in our secondary site although the role is enable already in primary site ?

b. May I knowid theirs a complict ?

c. How do I know if the workstation in the remote area copying the files in "secondary Site SMP Role"  ?

Build & Capture Task Sequence - Stuck Downloading Software Updates 0%

I have a very simple Task Sequence to capture my Windows 7 Enterprise x64 reference image.

1. Partition & Format Disk

2. Installs Windows 7 Enterprise x64

3. Configure Network - Workgroup

4. Configure Windows & ConfigMgr Client

5. Install Software

6. Install Software Updates - All Software Updates

7. Sysprep

8. Capture Image

The client checks and scans for missing updates (ScanAgent.log) against the available updates and finds a heap of them (UpdatesStore.log). It then proceeds to download them (DataTransferService.log) to the CCM Cache. The problem is that the "Downloading Software Updates" progress indicator gets stuck at 0%. All the logs are normal with no errors at all! I cannot find any error to say that there is an issue downloading an update, it is as though the updates were downloaded by the client is unaware and is still waiting for a download complete notification. Leaving the client alone overnight does not time out either. I've also looked at UpdatesDeployment.log, WUAHandler.log, etc.

There are about 60 updates but I can only find 50 directories in the cache folder. Weird thing is, if I were to do a "New OS" deployment from a Task Sequence, the software updates download and installs without any issue.

Because I am unable to find any errors in any logs, I have run out of ideas on what may be causing this to occur. This is a mixed mode environment and I have tried it with the machine joined to the domain and in a workgroup. The ConfigMgr client has also been configured with SMSMP, SMSFSP and SMSSLP. The Install Software Updates step is also done after installing the latest Windows Update agent 7.4.
