task sequence cannot be run because a program files for *** are unaccessible on the distribution point

I've looked at the other threads on this and didn't find a solution.

I've pushed F8 and verified that I can ping VIA FQDN and can map to the share using net use so I've verified security access.

Any ideas?

PXE and remote DHCP

Hi All,

We have a situation where there is remote DHCP and local PXE is present in one of the site. Customer is planning for moving DHCP role from remote to local server. I wanted to check if changing DHCP requires reinstallation of PXE or can it cause some issue?

Note: we are not using port 66,67. We are using ip helper and imaging is working fine.

Thank you.

how secure a task sequence advertisement

Hello

We have a task sequence for the replacing of the OS. Only the local 1 level support should available do run this task sequence when he is logged on.

When I advertise the task sequence to this usergroupe the task sequence fails because task sequences can only be advertised to Computers.

How can I secure the task sequence that only a limited group of Users can run the task sequence?

SCCM 2007 BDP - acting as PXE and OSD

We have BDP workstation running in Windows 7 in a remote area and I want to promote this as OS Deployment and PXE for the said branch .. if this possible the BDP will be acting as PXE and OSD role to eliminate the banwith issues ?

version: SCCM 2007

Please advise and provide me a step  if possible

Applying WinPE without reboot.

I am trying to split the apply WinPE and reboot to WinPE as 2 different parts in my task sequnce. The reason for this is because i need to run a cmd line before it boots into WinPE. The cmd actually makes changes to the applied WinPE. Is this possible and how.

Missing something simple: MDT2012 Reference Image Build

$

So, building a simple image reference virtual machine in client hyper-V the task sequence keeps error'ing out because it can not connect to the deployment share to complete the build.

But here is what is strange.

I cancel the task sequence and error out to a command line. From the command line, ipconfig returns a healthy set of connection setting (dns, etc), I can ping google.com, msn.com, etc. and get a response, connect to the network via IE explorer and I can see a host of network shares BUT not the guest OS share.

AND, when I ping the guest OS IP, from the WinPE VM, it times out. Likewise when I ping the VM from the guest OS it times out.

Firewall disabled. MDT 2010u1/ADK.

What am I missing?

Re-Imaging Computers Same Computer Name

I need to re-image computers on my network, but I am concerned about using the same computer name and how this will effect SCCM patching.   If I use the same computer name, but simply put a new Windows image on a PC, will SCCM recognize the new vulnerabilities even though they were patched under that computer name on the previous image?

I appreciate the clarification.  I am very new to SCCM and don't exactly grasp the process for patches yet!

Moving from MDT/WDS to SCCM 2012

Hi guys,

We have a MDT 2010/WDS environment for deploying images at the moment. SCCM is in place and working, tested our builds and want to move over to SCCM for all OSD.

However we have a need for our previous images, built in MDT, deployed using WDS to be accessible should we need to roll out a legacy Vista build for example.

I'm unable to create a discovery image in WDS for the MDT boot images as they do not contain the WDS client binaries as they are lite touch images.

Anyone got suggestions? Ideally we want to have SCCM as the standard PXE which we can set, but the issue is how to deploy our existing images in the rare case that we would need  them. What do you do?

Thanks - Steve

Patchy SCCM 2012 Client Install

My self and our Technology Coordinator have recently started up a SCCM 2012 server for use across our public school district.  The server is running Server 2008 R2, SQL 2012, and SCCM 2012.  We went though adding the various roles and boundries and were rather pleased with the progress we were making.  That is until we noticed that a majority of our 32 bit machines weren't taking the client.  our 64bit machines didn't seem to be having any problems, but the adoption rate of 32 bit machines was dismal at best.  In fact the computers that haven't taken the client we tried pushing it to them and when that didnt work we tried manually starting from the machine itself.  We compared running services between computers in the same labs with the same hardware and software, verified the settings were the same on the computers but are unable to find any rhyme or reason some will install the client while others will not.  Any suggestions on what to do?

WDS - MDT - SCCM

Hi,

Please clarify differences between WDS-MDT and SCCM (with MDT).
If I check WDS, I see "Install Images, Boot Images, Drivers ... just as in SCCM. I kind of get the concept of MDT (light-touch SCCM for OS-deployments only) but where does WDS comes in? You need it for SCCM (MDT too?) but no configuration is made in WDS as far as I can see on my SCCM 2012-server.

Thanks.

J.

Injecting Mass-Storage (SATA) drivers into Boot Image for SCCM OSD

$

I'm looking for some pointers regarding adding Mass Storage drivers into a Boot Image
We use SCCM 2007, integrated with MDT 2010 for Operating System Deployment. This has been up & running fine for approx one year.
We have recently got some tower units in for our CAD team (Lenovo S30-0568), which need a SATA driver injected (Intel C600 series chipset SATA AHCI Controller); the intended operating system is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.
We have a working Win7 pro 64-bit which deploys successfulyl to other models. However, any deployment to the S30 fails immediately when the "format and partition disk" step begins. Using a command prompt and the "diskpart" command shows that there are no hard disks visible when WinPE boots.
We've confirmed the correct SATA driver from going thru the manual CD build, so we now know what driver to use to make the drives visible
These drivers are already imported into our SCCM environemnt. I've added these to our boot-image by selecting the appropriate driver under "Operating System Deployment/Drivers", right-clicking and selecting "add or remove drivers to boot images", as we have done previously with NIC drivers.
However, the Task Sequence still fails on the "Format..." step on the S30s, and "diskpart" is still showing the error "there are no hard disks present".
I found this link detailing adding mass-storage drivers on MDT:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/850c50f6-505c-4a64-bb2e-5aa4f19e0e93/mdt-2010-not-able-to-deploy-windows-xp-to-include-mass-storage-drivers
However, we are using MDT with SCCM OSD.
Do I need to do anything in addition to the "add drivers to boot image" to fully install the selected driver?
Are there any technet pages etc outlining correct methods for adding mass-storage drivers to boot-files using SCCM/OSD?
Can anyone think of any other reasons why the hard-disk on the S30 is not visible to WinPE?
(Note - I don't have any smsts.log file; the file obviously will not be saved as there is no disk for it to be saved to.)

Thanks
Stan

Application installation through MDT

$

Hi,

We are using MDT 2012 and have got stuck at installing applications. We have done & configured everything as per documentation & various blogs but still applications are not getting installed. Applications appear on deployment wizard and we select all applications but nothing gets installed later on. we are not able to identify the installation also as nothing is available in any log file except our application entry in BDD.log.

How we did it is:

1. Imported application & provided silent command line.

2. Configured task sequence to install multiple application under "State restore" sequence.

3. Also configured CS.ini and mentioned "Applications001={.......} etc under [Default]. and that's it.

Now on boot it prompts to select application but nothing happens later on. I have gone through various blogs but not able to identify the issue with my deployment. Please suggest from where I can debug the problem & how.

Advertisement "XXX" from site "XXX" was rejected because the client's platform is not supported.

Hi

I'm advertising an OSD task sequence to some scale devices and getting the following issue:

Advertisement "XXXXXXXX" from site "XXX" was rejected because the client's platform is not supported.

Possible cause: The client received the advertisement but rejected it because the client's platform was not included in the list of supported platforms specified for the program.
Solution: If the client should actually accept the advertisement, either disable supported platform checking or modify the list of supported platforms specified on the Requirements tab of the Program's Properties dialog box. Changes to the program properties will not be detected until the list of advertised programs is refreshed on the client.

The question below looked like the same as my issue:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/9b500cf2-8d78-45a5-a0e1-8fc4f1e79c9e/osd-advertisement-rejected-by-client

However it is clear there that he has selected a specific platform whereas my TS is set to run on any platform. So why would it be causing this problem?

The clients I am advertising to are XPe and currently have the old SMS clients (v2.5). However in sitemode,This site contains only ConfigMgr 2007 clients is notchecked so my understanding is that there shouldn't be any issue with receiving OSD policy / advertisements for these machines.

Thanks in advance for any help

SCCM 2007 OSD Mulicast error 1722: The RPC Server is unavailable

$

Hello,

I keep getting the following error when I try to use Multicast for Operating System Deployment:

"Package failed to download from Multicast enabled DP, Error 1722: The RPC server is unavailable"

I have all server roles installed on one  2008R2 machine.

I have PXE booting working fine, so I don't think WDS is misconfigured, but I'm not sure how to check.

Does anyone have an idea of what I can do to solve this problem?

Thanks for any help you can provide,

-John Cox

OSD and USMT State Restore Issue

$

I have a question about overwriting data in the SMP when using SCCM 2007 SP2 (no R).  I had the following scenario:

XP SP3 to Win 7 migration.  The OSD TS captures the data with USMT, it stays on the SMP.  The machine gets wiped out.  Win 7 comes down, drivers plug and play, then the build fails and never makes it to the restore from SMP.  I now don't have the data anywhere except on the SMP.  I know I can use the command line to restore it manually.  In the case, the machine was imaged again, so needless to say, it didn't have any data to capture, overwrote the data store on the SMP and when it was done, all user data was of course gone.

I know the advert should have been set to always rerun ( I didn't set it that way :-) )but it did.

Question is, is there anyway to prevent the SMP data from being written over and wiped out?  In a perfect world, it wouldn't rerun and wipe it all out, but I have been ask to provide a solution.

Any ideas?
