New Dell Latitude E7240 Reboots in WinPE

Hey all, we just ordered a few e7240s from Dell, and i cannot for the life of me get the machines to PXE boot.   The machine contacts the WDS server, downloads the boot.wim, starts WinPE, Windows is starting up... is displayed, Preparing network connections is displayed, it's at this point that that WinPE Reboots.

Here's what i've done so far.

  1. Ran f8 and confirmed the system gets an IP address
  2. ran Diskpart and confirmed WinPE sees the drive.
  3. This tells me the boot.wim has the correct nic and storage drivers.
  4. Copied the TS to a USB drive as bootable media. (system successfully) images
  5. Took a look at the SMSTS.log
Failed to download pxe variable file. Code(0x00000001)    TSPxe
    PxeGetPxeData failed with 0x80004005    TSPxe
  6. Able to ping all SCCM servers from WinPE
  7. One thing in noticed as soon as WinPE loads, i hit f8 for the cmd prompt, At this point WinPE states "Windows is starting up".  When i type ipconfig all i get back is "Windows IP Configuration"I keep hitting ipconfig and right before "preparing network connections" i get
    Windows IP configuration
    Ethernet Adapter local area connection
    media state..........: Media disconnected
  8. Right after "Preparing Network Connections" disappears i finally have an IP address. If i close the cmd windows the PC reboots.
  9. I've plugged my laptop directly into the wall jack bypassing my switch
  10. I've confirmed w/ Networking that portfast is turned on for my port back at the switch in the closet.

Other items to note.

  1. Could not get WinPE to load until i injected the x64 bit NIC driver into the x86 boot.wim
  2. We have a non supported SCCM architecture (I walked into this environment, not my setup)
  3. SCCM boot.wims are copied to a WDS server.  SCCM servers do not respond to PXE requests
  4. Rather than replacing a prod boot.wim on the WDS server, i added the E7240 drivers to the boot.wim in SCCM, updated the DPs, copied the boot.PkgID.wim to the WDS server.
  5. When booting to the recently added boot.wim on WDS, previous models that were working, fail at the same spot as the E7240.
  6. I had to do a major cleanup on the boot.wims.  My predecssor included all drivers in the boot.wims, and SCCM could no longer update the WIMs due to driver incompatiblities.  Pretty much removed the drivers one by one and tried updating the DPs until no errors existed.
  7. If i select a the prod boot.wim from WDS and boot a model that is currently working, it appears that it gets an IP address much faster.

Help!
