Hi,

I am planning to use hardlink migration using USMT.

Need to know in which case it fails. What happens if task sequence fails after applying operating system and before restoring user data?

Please suggest in this.

Deploying from Standalone media created using SCCM 2007 via a Solid state drive

Hello Guys,

I have created a Windows 7 32 bit image using SCCM 2007 R2 and created a deployment task sequence which installs the required applications. The task sequence is working fine with the bootable media and stand alone media (using normal USB Drive). When i copy the standalone media from normal USB drive to a Star tech Samsung Solid State Drive i am getting the following error. It loads the Windows PE and tries to initialize the hardware devices and then throws up the error.

Unable to read the configuration disk , Please contact your administrator.

When i see the SMSTS.Log it is showing the following error.

==============================[ TSBootShell.exe ]==============================

I want to use SSD as a standalone media for deployment.

When i Press F8 and check the SSD drive i can view the files and i am thinking it is not relating to the drivers.

Can you please let me know if am missing anything.

Thanks

Lokesh.

I have a basic task sequence.   The first step is Restart in WindowsPE, second step is Partition Disk 0.  3rd step is Apply OS Image.

I F12 a workstation and get to the task sequence menu.  I pick my one and only task sequence and it says it's trying to "Resolve selected task sequence dependencies" and then it dies.   It Never reboots into WinPE.   I look at the SMSTS.LOG file and it says

Attempting to connect to "\\SCCMCENTRALSITE\SMSPKGD$\LAB0000A"

Attempting to connect to "\\SCCMCENTRALSITE\SMSPKGD$\LAB0000A"

Attempting to connect to "\\SCCMCENTRALSITE\SMSPKGD$\LAB0000A"

Attempting to connect to "\\SCCMCENTRALSITE\SMSPKGD$\LAB0000A"

Failed to connect to \\SCCMCENTRALSITE\SMSPKGD$\LAB0000A"

LAB0000A is the Windows 7 .WIM file and it is in that share and I've make sure the machine accounts can access this share.

The SMSTS.LOG also says the "program files for LAB0000A are inaccessible on the DP.     I even added DOMAIN USERS to have READ on both the share and permissions and it still fails.   What else should I modify or fix?

Boot into a task sequence wizard from hard disk

$

Hi everyone,

Been lurking here for a while… time to ask a question… :)

Without boring people with too much detail - is it possible to boot into the Task Sequence wizard from the local hard disk?

What I am after is a bit like bare-metal/PXE boot, but from the local disk. I thought this would be trivial by "splashing” the image from USB drive/CD to local hard disk. I then wanted to use the local drive to do the first boot (using the BOOT.WIM on local disk) and then proceed working from the RAMdrive (X:). Then just carry on as normal with imaging the local disk (that WinPE originally booted from but no longer needs as it is working from the RAMdrive)...

I am getting WinPE to start but it is then complaining that it “Failed to find the current TS configuration path”. I can’t figure out for the life of me how to get it to find them files. Exactly identical setup works from CD and from USB stick. It just fails booting from the hard disk.

Unfortunately “out of the box” solutions don’t really work as I am working within the confines of another (in house) deployment system and I really need to boot from local disk and then deploy to speciffic partitions.

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Hi,

I have migrated to SCCM 2012 and everything was working great. This is a question regarding the final version of 2012 that is why I didn't post it in connect. I have been using OSD on 2012 for a few days but now suddenly I get the following error right after the loading bar where it evaluates the task sequence selected and if everything is available.

An error occurred while starting the task sequence (0x8007000E)

Bitlocker AD Recovery on RODC Site fails while OSD

$

Hi all,

we are using a SCCM 2007 R3 infrastructure with multiple Secondary Sites. Active Directory is prepared for storing Bitlocker.

Our Task Sequence works like a charm since 2 years ago. There wasn't ever a Problem with Bitlocker Recovery Password Backup to AD.

Now we started to implement Read Only Domain Controllers (RODC) on several remote sites. As far as I know those RODC work as expected, but I didn't had a look on those.

So when a Client is staged on a remote Location with a RODC on site, the step "Enable Bitlocker" Fails, because the Recovery key can not be stored in the AD. The following error Message appers in the Eventlog:

Failed to backup BitLocker Drive Encryption recovery information to Active Directory Domain Services.

Errorcode: 0x8007052e

------------------------------

Just four second before this error message is written to eventlog, the following warnging is also written to eventlog:

BIOS/TCG Memory Overwrite Control: Error changing value.

-------------------------------

After staging, when Windows is normally started and a User is logged on, enabling Bitlocker works without any Errors or warnings (from eventlog):

BitLocker Drive Encryption recovery information was backed up successfully to Active Directory Domain Services.

-----------------------------

In smsts.log, I could not find any Information, but I will post it if requested.

The same Computer could get installed without any Errors in our Main Office or in a Remote Location where a normal DC is available. Again as I said, manually acitvate Bitlocker after OSD works, and the Key is also written to the AD.

We searched a lot in the Internet, but didn't found any others with a similar configuration or Problem. Any tips would be highly appreciated.

WinPE BOOT

I have a working environment where I can pxe boot and image a machine, however I ran in to an issue where a lenovo laptop keeps failing when it is trying to initiate winPE boot. I hesitated injecting storage and LAN drivers to the existing  WinPE image  because i did not want to add untested drivers to a Working winPE so I created an additional WinPE Boot image and added drivers to that, I then realized  that the only image was available to pxe boot was the original WinPE image since that's what in WDS, I did push the second WinPE to  PXE DP and regular DP. Can I add second WinPE to WDS what are my options.

Thanks

One thing that confuses me about the log, is that the MP is MP: server=ctsmsp01.engenoil.net, http=80, https=443, default=80 TSMBootstrap 2010/11/30 08:46:14 AM 1492 (0x05D4)

CTSMSP01 is the primary site, but this machine should be reporting to a secondary MP (LOBPSMSS01).

There is one computer has the problem.  I tried removed the computer from the collection boot as unknown computer or manually add the computer with mac address.  I tried pxe boot, I got no dhcp or proxy dhcp received error.  If boot from bootCD or USB, It show "An error occurred while retrieving policy for this computer".  Could you please give me more advices about it ?

Stuck on "Windows is Loading Files"

I am trying to use an SCCM 2007 task sequence to image one of our desktops and am getting this issue. I boot from a USB stick that is supposed to load PE and then call the appropriate task sequence. On a handful of machines, this only gets to this screen (Windows is Loading Files) and then halts. I can do this same process on an identical model and everything works as it should. We currently have 11 of these desktops (HP dc7800 SFF) that are affected. Any idea on how to proceed?

The operating system reported error 8228: The administrative limit for this request was exceeded

When trying to do a Windows XP deployment without USMT i get the following error "The task sequence execution engine failed executing the action (Setup windows and ConfigMgr) in the group () with the error code 8228 Action output: . The operating system reported error 8228: The administrative limit for this request was exceeded.

The next status message then reads "execution of the task sequence. A failure exit code of 8228 was returned. The operating system reported error 8228: The administrative limit for this request was exceeded."

The issue only really occurs when kicking off the deployment process within Windows itself, by going to run advertised programs. Seems to be ok initiating via PXE. I have read similar posts where USMT is effected by a particular patch, but in this case we arent running USMT,

Thanks Glen

How do you control the default boot.wim PXE uses?

SCCM is dumb when it comes to deciding on the boot.wim to use.

The last advertised TS is how SCCM decides which boot.wim to use.

So if you have a colletion of x86 and x64 machines and you advertise a TS with a x86 boot.wim all systems will boot from the x86 boot.wim first but hte x64 machines will reboot into x64 boot.wim if they pick a x64 TS.

Now if you advertise a x64 TS to this colletion all machines will try to boot off the x64 boot.wim first. obviolusly x86 machines and VMs will fail to boot in this way.

whats really stupid is the PXE knows what architecture is being used. SCCM should force a x86 boot.wim for x86 architectures. As for x64 it really doesnt matter other then having to press "finish" after selecting a TS that doesnt match the TS architecture.

Having seperate collections for x64 and x86 machiens will help control this.

So as the topic says "How do you control the default boot.wim PXE uses?" I really dislike having to re-advertise a TS just to control the boot.wim pxe uses. Plus if the last advertisment was x64 it breaks ALL x86 only machines and VMs.

How do I remove KB974571 from a command line on Windows XP

I am unable to deploy a particular image owing to the fact it has the above software update included in it. I need to remove this as a step but can't seem to find the way to do this. Or rather, most of what I have read suggests WUSA.exe. Trouble is I can't seem to find this download for XP anywhere.

Anybody got any ideas?

SCCM 2007 R3 Sp2 - OSD Task Sequence fails when advertised to a collection but deploys through PXE

Hello, I'm having an issue with a new/first TS created to deploy an OS to a collection.  The TS fails when advertised to a collection.  However if i reboot the PC, and PXE boot it the TS completes successfully.  From the GUI on the client, it seems the TS fails at the auto apply drivers stage.  The status message on the client states "Contacting server to find compatible drivers" when it errors out.  I don't have the exact error code from the client.  I'll update the thread once i have it.

Here is the error code from the Task Sequence Advertisement Status from the SCCM Console

  1. The task sequence execution engine failed executing the action (Auto Apply Drivers) in the group () with the error code 2147500037
